We have created a virtue program that incorporates definitions, discussion, practice, Church teaching, and prayer. There are four goals:

  3. To practice concrete steps to develop virtuous habits
  4. To teach the Church’s position through the Catechism of the Catholic Church and Her Saints

For each unit, you will find the following sections:

  1. Definition ~ provides a definition of the unit’s virtue
  2. Discussion ~ provides questions for helping students discuss the virtue
  3. Practice ~ offers concrete ways of practicing the virtue
  4. The CCC ~ quotes sections from the Catechism of the Catholic Church
  5. Some Quotes ~ quotes Saints and other authors who had something to say

One key to success with the program is for teachers and parents to work on mastering the virtues themselves. A good example speaks louder than words! When you do falter, be honest with your students. Apologize for not being better at __________. This shows that you desire to be better and that you are working toward virtuous habits just like they are.

When helping your students, remind them of the practical steps. This might include what not to do in the situation. Repetition is key. The more they hear it, the easier it will get to remember.

The content of this book is included in digital form in Schola Rosa Cycle 1.

"I purchased Alpha Year last summer for my first grader, and we have so thoroughly enjoyed the program. My 2 and a half year old son even loves it!  He loves to recite the poetry and the history. What really astonished me, however, was his ability to apply the information he learned from the songs. I was talking to my husband about our history lesson, and I mentioned 'the king of Persia' and he shouted, 'that's King Cyrus!' " Camille in California
